About Coach Rich Thurman
Rich Thurman is a San Francisco based personal trainer, performance coach and movement specialist with over 20 years of experience working with executives, athletes, diplomats, and high performance professionals across the United States and Southeast Asia.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiological Science from UCLA (2000) and a Master of Arts in Sports Management from the University of San Francisco. His certifications include the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, NSCA Certified Personal Trainer, FRC Mobility Specialist, FRC Assessment Specialist, FRC Internal Strength Model Coach, and TPI Level 1 Coach.
His career began in clinical and collegiate settings in San Francisco, where he worked as a physical therapy aide in the financial district, as a personal trainer at the Olympic Club, and as an assistant to the athletic trainer at City College of San Francisco during the football program's national championship runs of the early 2000’s.
In 2004 Rich founded his first coaching practice in the East Bay, based in Orinda, California, before eventually relocating to Southeast Asia in 2006. Over the years abroad he built a private coaching practice in Bangkok serving an international clientele drawn from the diplomatic corps, luxury hospitality, competitive athletics, and global finance. Clients included Thai Olympic shooter Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit, the senior leadership of the Dusit Thani Hotel group, and C-suite executives operating across multiple countries and industries.
Rich returned to San Francisco in 2012 and established his current practice serving the SF Peninsula corridor. His US client roster includes fintech founders, senior partners at global professional services firms, and executives across finance and technology.
His coaching philosophy is grounded in precision assessment and individualized programming, informed by formal training in exercise physiology, two decades of practical application, and his own experience navigating return to performance following his own significant spinal and shoulder injuries. Rich takes a collaborative approach with his client’s medical team in order to provide optimal coaching outcomes.
His practice operates on an application only model and serves a limited number of clients across private in studio locations in San Francisco and San Mateo and through an executive concierge service across the Peninsula.
